Ranunculus Knit Along: A Fan Favorite for a Reason
Some patterns earn their cult following—and Ranunculus by Midori Hirose is one of them. First published in 2017, this much-loved sweater has been knit by thousands of knitters around the world. Join Marco Martinez for a four-session Knit Along beginning in January 2027 and discover what makes Ranunculus such a perennial favorite.
Worked top-down and seamlessly in the round, Ranunculus combines delicate lace and textured stitches in a beautifully designed round yoke. Hirose describes the yoke as looking like layers of necklaces, with short rows worked both front and back to create a flattering, subtly boat-shaped neckline.
And then there’s the versatility. Ranunculus can be knit in anything from laceweight through worsted yarn, with the yarn choice dramatically changing the personality of the finished sweater. Go light and airy with a thinner yarn on larger needles, or create a more substantial, structured garment by using thicker yarn or holding two strands together.
The pattern gives you plenty of opportunities to make it your own, too: choose a smaller or wider neckline, short sleeves or long puff sleeves, and customize the cuff. The original cropped length is designed to layer beautifully over dresses or high-waisted pants and skirts—but if cropped isn't your thing, simply adjust the body to your preferred length.
