That is so sad!

You deserve happiness and fine things. Cast on a new project, the most squishy yarn, fun notions and instruction books, some new skills and fiber friends with a class...

Plus, this habit is much better for your teeth than crack.

Needle felting a Highland cow is like sculpting a grumpy little cloud that secretly wants a hug. In this class, you’ll turn loose, fluffy wool into a sturdy, irresistibly shaggy cow using a barbed felting needle and a whole lot of gentle poking.

We start by building a solid core shape for the body and head. This is where the magic begins. Each poke tangles the wool fibers together, shrinking fluff into form. It feels a little like coaxing chaos into cooperation.

Next comes the face, which is where Highland cows earn their celebrity status. You’ll shape the long snout, define those sleepy eyes, and give your cow that iconic fringe that looks like it’s permanently judging your life choices. Horns are added last, carefully rolled and attached so they curve just right.

Then we move on to the coat. Highland cows are famous for their dramatic hair, so we layer and texture the wool to create that long, tousled look. This part is oddly therapeutic. Stab, fluff, repeat. It’s very grounding. Also excellent for releasing feelings.

By the end of class, you’ll have a mostly made freestanding Highland cow with personality, posture, and enough charm to live on a shelf, desk, or windowsill where it can silently supervise your life choices.

What you’ll learn:

  • How needle felting works and why the wool listens eventually
  • Shaping techniques for bodies, faces, and tiny details
  • Attaching features like horns, legs, and bangs without panic
  • How to add texture and personality so no two cows look alike

You don’t need experience. Just curiosity, patience, and a willingness to poke wool until it becomes adorable.

This class is bright, bouncy, and just the right amount of ridiculous — the perfect creative break for kids, adults, or anyone who needs an afternoon that doesn’t involve a to-do list or taxes.

Skill level: Beginner-friendly

Warning: Contains sharp needles, wool fuzz everywhere, and a strong chance you’ll name your cow before you leave.

Instructor: Tracy Winslow — Owner of Low Country Shrimp & Knits (and professional wool-stabber)

Class: Saturday, February 7th • 2–4 PM

Class Fee Includes: Lesson and All the materials (and moral support) you need to make your own adorable friend(aka everything you need except snacks and patience).
