Wait, horizontal stripes on one side and vertical on the other? WHAT IS THIS WITCHCRAFT?!? It's called Double Knitting - it looks like magic but it's just a little fancy trick with a slipped stitch. Come and learn how to make two different skeins of yarn come together to create this beauty. You can stop at a pot holder/hot pad size - but I'm guessing you'll love this pattern so much that you'll want to continue on to the scarf size.
Class Instructor: Tracy Winslow - Owner of Low Country Shrimp and Knits
Class Date: Saturday, August 9 from 2-4pm
This class is best suited for anyone who knows how to cast on, knit, and purl and wants to learn this fun style of knitting!
Pattern information: Magic Stripe Hot Pad or Scarf by Sara Baldwin https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/magic-stripe-hot-pad-or-scarf
Yarn Weight: Worsted
For project-based classes we require your yarn to be purchased at Shrimp and Knits with a 10% discount in advance of the class.
Needle Size: US 8
Says Designer Sara Baldwin: The magic about this pattern is that the stripes are vertical on one side, and horizontal on the other! This slip stitch pattern may seem a bit fussy at first, but it is easily memorized after a few rows.
This makes a nice thick hotpad if worked in worsted weight cotton, but with wool and larger needles it is a striking and unique scarf! The scarf In the last two photos used #8 needles and 31 stitches for a scarf 4.75 inches wide.
I have also made this hot pad (pot holder) in wool, and then felted it (if you do it this way, be sure to add extra length before felting!)
